Sentence Identification

There are four types of sentences. This chart explains and includes an example of each. Study the chart and then write a sentence of each type. When you are finished, look in the newspaper to see if you can find an example of each type of sentence.

Type of Sentence Punctuation Example
Declarative: makes a statement or tells something
Ends with a period
I see a cute dog.
Interrogative: asks a question
Ends with a question mark
Are you sleeping?
Imperative: makes a command
Ends with a period
Wipe your feet before you come in.
Exclamatory: shows strong feeling
Ends with an exclamation point
It was the best summer ever!
